January 20th 2009- marked one of the most important date of American History– the inauguration of the First Black president of the United States. However , my heart was someplace else. While I really felt proud to be in this land and to witness this historical event , heavier burdens laid on my heart. I was in pain for one thing. I had my wisdom teeth removed and a crown lengthening procedure done to the back of my teeth that hurt like hell.

I was also anxious for today’s test results of the HCA levels. I was still spotting a little, and that was not a good sign. The doctor would inform me in the late afternoon what was going on. If my hca levels were up from yesterdays’s then it meant that the baby or rather the blob was growing. If it wasn’t, then it meant miscarriage.

Finally the doctor called me and told me that it was good that the hca level was rising, and it was still really early stage . She reckons it was about one month since conception, and she scheduled me to see the OB in two weeks for an ultrasound.

So it’s real. I still can’t really believe it. I realize now how much worry a mother can go through during the nine months because so many things can go wrong.

Well, I know statistically the first trimester is the riskiest, and I just hope that I am not that 20%.
